THE K I N G ’ S B U S I N E S S to th e in n ; put him in charge of th e host and made provision for his future' needs. He made a payment in advance and promised to settle any unpaid ac count. This is th e Lord’s picture of a real neighbor. I t silenced the scribe and should in stru ct us. In th is picture of the Good Sam aritan we have a po rtray al of the work of the Son of God in be half of fallen man, who journeyed from Heaven’s glory to life’s highway to m inister to our need; to take our. place on th e cross and give us His place on the throne. (Matt. 20:28) “E v e n a s th e Son o f M an cam e n o t to be m in is te re d u n to , tout to m in is te r, a n d to g iv e h is life a ra n so m fo r m a n y .” (2 Cor. 8 :9 ) “F o r y e k n o w th e g ra c e o f o u r L o rd J e s u s C h rist, th a t, th o u g h h e w a s rich , y e t fo r y o u r s a k e s h e b ecam e p o o r, th a t ye th ro u g h h is p o v e rty m ig h t b e ric h .” This is. a m anifestation of a love whose only lim it is th e extrem ity of hum an need. Shall we not heed the admonition from th e lips of Him who drew th e picture of the Samaritan, “ Go and do thou likewise.” (1 P eter 2 :21) ' “F o r ev en h e re u n to w e re y e c a lle d j b e c a u se C h rist a ls o su ffere d fo r u s, le a v in g u s a n e x am p le, th a t y e sh o u ld fo llo w h is s te p s.” QUESTIONS. W hat admonition should come

to us from th is story? (Phil. 2:5-8)

The parable of th e good S am aritan in culcates th è duty of brotherly kindness. Paul logically condenses th e en tire law into a single precept. Rom. 13:10. Love is th e fulfilling or the DEVOTIONAL filling full of the law. COMMENT Love is a pervasive F . W. F a r r principle th a t colors all the life and de term ines all th e couduct. P aul speaks of “ tru th in g in love” , Eph. 4:15, and John of “ loving in tr u th ” . 1 John 3:18. T ru th and love are consistent and com plementary. T ru th w ithout love is not tru th . Love w ithout tru th is not love. Love only can find th e tru th , and speak the tru th and hold the tru th and live the tru th . I t is not possible to serve hum anity and win a single soul from darkness to light w ithout a self-sac rificing love th a t reflects the love of Calvary. • . It is noteworthy th a t a Sam aritan un dertook w hat the priest and Levite re fused. When th e Jews could th ink of no more opprobrious epithet to apply to th e Saviour, they called Him a Sama- . rita n and a demoniac. John 8:48. “The eyes of the Lord are in every place, be holding the evil and th e gorffi.” Prov. 15:3. If these searching eyes find some evil in th e best of us, may' they not find some good in th e worst of us? No Jewish eyes would ever see any good in a Samaritan. This story teaches th a t life is com posed of new and changing situations and fresh opportunities. We are to act th e p art of love toward those whom each situation reveals. This Samaritan tu rn ed a corner and came upon the wounded traveler. He had not been thinking about him. He had not even known of his existence. Suddenly he is confronted by a bleeding and half-dead fellow-creature. He meets th e occa-
