which man could glorify Him. The le tte r killeth. The Spirit m aketh alive. The formalists and the legalists are al ways strain ing a t a gnat and swal lowing a camel. There are churchmen who would pu t th e believers of this dispensation under the law of what they term th e “ Christian Sabbath”. The Christian belongs to a new era, a new age, a new creation. He is himself a new creation and cannot be made in any possible way to fit into any other age. The Lord of th e Sabbath- has given us a Lord’s Day in which to remember Him. It is the first day of the week. The Lord’s Day is itself a w itness to His, resurrection from th e dead and th e be liever’s privilege is to 'w itn e ss for Him on th a t day, to make it a glad day of worship and service, a day in which, by, grace, in th is land he is free from ordinary duties and has th e gracious privilege of magnifying the Name which is above every name,— not by a tire some, tedious round of legal duties, but by a gladsome, joyful, delightful serv ice in which the words of his mouth, the meditations of his h eart, and th e ac tivities of his body may all bear testi mony to the glorious fact of his resu r rection w ith th e risen Lord. , (6) THE HAPPY PEOPLE, v. 17. “And all the people rejoiced.” W hat a happy ending of a holy day! Follow the healed woman as she lifts her eyes for the first tim e in eighteen years, from a straig h t body, and gazes into th e face of her Saviour and Lord! Follow her as she goes rejoicing to her home! L isten to her testimony! Hear the glad rejoicing of the people! Why do we not have more seasons of re joicing in our classes? Are th ere any blind onqs, sin-stopped ones, sin-bur dened ones? B ring them to Jesus for His hands of healing, His message of forgiveness, and His “ Go in peace!” H allelujah, what a Saviour!
dropped into th e box. He sees what you pu t in th e chu rch ’ collection. He sees the tears of the broken-hearted. He is touched w ith the feeling of our infirm ity. He called her to Him and spoke th e wonderful words, “Woman, thou a rt loosed from th in e infirm ity.” : (4) THE HANDS OF JESUS, v. 13. “And He laid His hands on h er.” Immediately she was made straigh t and glorified God. W hat wonderful Hands! Those Hands fashioned the worlds and flung them into space. Those Hands m inistered to all kinds of needy people. Those Hands broke th e five loave3 and two salted h erring and fed ten thousand people. He laid His hands on little children and blessed them. He pu t His hands upon th e eyes of tlife blind man and they were opened. Those hands were nailed to th e cross and irere uplifted' before the disciples in the upper room as a proof of H is bodily resurrection, “Behold my h and s!” Those hands were uplifted as He ascended to the F ath è r and gave them His parting bless ing. Those hand's shall hold the sceptre some good day and He shall ru le over the new heavens and th e new earth. P u t your hands into His hands, by faith, and walk w ith Him and glorify Him. (5) THE HEART OF THE HYPO CRITE, vs. 14-16. “Thou hypo crite.” A strong rebuke from th e lips of the Lord! Here is a cairping critic finding fau lt w ith the Lord. The Pharisees had never done anything for th e helpless woman, but they would save one of th eir own oxen and give it w ater on the Sabbath Day. Jesus is Lord!: He made th e law of the Sabbath, and if He de sired could abrogate it. He certainly is qualified to in te rp re t it and He does. Inasmuch as th e chief end of man is to glorify God, th e Sabbath law must have been intended as a means by
