FGA v2a Operation Manual

The Mountz FGA adjustable cam-over torque screwdriver is an error-proofing tool that allows engineers to reduce the risk of over-torque on their assembly lines in production environments with critical fasteners often found in electronics, aerospace, and automotive manufacturing. Torque range suitable for micro, low, and medium torque applications. Using a clutch mechanism, cam-over tools prevent the operator from applying too much torque to the fastener - preventing over-torque events, broken components, costly product returns, and safety risks. Cam-over technology reduces the possibility of operator error in both fastening directions, which ensures correct torque is applied and prevents fastener breakage. Providing the operator with an adjustable tool provides flexibility where torque values may need to be adjusted on demand, like maintenance, field service, and research applications. All Mountz FGA hand tools have a calibration life of 4x ISO standards that is unmatched by any adjustable torque screwdriver provider.

How to Indentify a FGA v2 model There are two ways to identify whether you have a v2 or a v1 model. 1. The v2 models has separate battery access cover (see page 2) on the lower side of the handle. The v1 models does not. See page 4 for servicing and battery replacement for v1 models. The v2 models has separate battery access cover (see page 2) on the lower side of the handle. Torque Setting Slide the locking bar slide mechanism to the unlock position. Use the black adjustment knob to change torque settings. Turn the knob clockwise to increase torque and counterclockwise to decrease torque. After selecting your torque value, release the locking bar slide, and it will return to its original position. Per ISO:6789-1, when certified, the tool is adjusted from the bottom-up.

Note: Do not adjust torque above or below the designated torque ranges for the torque screwdriver. If you exceed the upper torque range capacity of the screwdriver, the tool's screen will display the letter "H." If you exceed the lower torque range capacity of the screwdriver, the tool's screen will display the letter "L."

Applying Torque 1. Tighten the fastener or bolt by applying a steady twist. Keep the screwdriver in line with the axis of the bolt during tightening. The screwdriver will ‘slip’ after achieving the pre-set torque setting.

2. The screwdriver will automatically reset itself for the next application. 3. With its unique cam-over design, it’s impossible to over-tighten beyond the pre-set load. Battery When a low battery status is detected, the FGA will indicate it by displaying "bAt" on the screen. The battery needs to be replaced.

Note: The FGA doesn't have a battery status icon that displays the battery level status permanently. The low battery indicator will only display once the estimated battery life is <10%

Battery Replacement 1. Use a 1.5mm hexagonal key to loosen the two screws and remove

the battery cover.

2. Remove the battery from the battery holder.

3. Insert a new battery.

Maintenance Schedule Like an automobile, torque screwdrivers contain moving parts that require periodic servicing and lubrication.

Expected Tool Life With normal use – 1,000,000 operations

Routine Maintenance After 100,000 operations, strip, clean and re-grease the spring, bearings and internal components. Any worn components should be replaced. Note: Any tool that is dismantled during its life must be re-lubricated in accordance with the Mountz recommendations. Do not clean tools by immersing them in a solvent, as this will destroy the internal lubrication and cause the failure of the tool.

Period Between Recalibration 20,000 fastening operations. It is acknowledged that some tools may achieve 20,000 operations in a relatively short period of time. Under these circumstances, the user may decide to increase the period between calibration intervals with the benefit of their experience.

Calibrating Torque Screwdrivers Please view the FGA calibration instructions document.

Testing and Servicing Torque tools go out of calibration with use. Calibrating a torque tool is a fine-tuning process of bringing the tool back within its tolerance. Regular torque calibration of a hand screwdriver ensures accuracy, repeatable tool performance, and adherence to international standards. We recommend a general once a year calibration interval. However, it is the user’s organization that must determine suitable intervals based upon equipment performance, application, degree of usage and management objectives. Servicing and Battery Replacement for v1 models With v1 models (see page 1 to identify if you have a v1 or v2 model), battery replacement and any servicing of these models require it to be done at the Mountz service center.
