Just 1 Simple Act Can Change the World SMALL ACTS OF GENEROSITY MAKE A BIG SPLASH

As Oscar Wilde once said, “The smallest act of kindness is worth more than the grandest intention.” If you’ve ever received a hug “just because,” had a stranger hold the door for you when you’re struggling with full hands, or experienced a friend generously offer, “This one is on me” at a restaurant, then you know the warm and fuzzy feeling of a random act of kindness. On June 15, we celebrate the Worldwide Day of Giving, a day dedicated to the power of kindness and the impact that donating our time, money, and experiences can make. One kind act can make our world a more compassionate and collaborative place. By giving to others, we give to ourselves too — in more ways than one. Whether it’s complimenting a stranger, exchanging smiles with a passerby, holding the door for the person behind you, picking up trash in the park, or paying for someone’s order in line behind you, paying it forward is a selfless act that helps to generate positivity and feelings of pride and worth. At one time or another, we have all been beneficiaries of selfless acts of kindness without any reason other than “just because.” Sometimes, paying it forward brings about real change in the world. Here are just a few examples of times when one or two people began a movement that became much larger than themselves, just by being nice to someone else. Pie It Forward At Sister Pie in Detroit, Michigan, a program lets customers purchase a slice of pizza for those who are less fortunate

to pay or simply would like to sample the pizza, can choose a coupon off of the wall and trade it in for a slice of pizza, courtesy of another. 11-hour Chain of Generosity A few years back at a Starbucks drive-thru in St. Petersburg, Florida, at 7 a.m., a woman made the decision to pay for both her coffee order and the order of the person in line behind her. Touched by the act, the driver behind her paid for the order of the person in the car behind them. This good deed chain continued all day and began to leave employees feeling humbled and proud — thus, they began counting how many people continued the trend. The generosity chain continued until around 6 p.m. when the 379th customer ordered a coffee and did not pay for the order behind them. (It was speculated that the person didn’t understand what was going on.) Organ Chain Pay-it-forward chains aren’t just for food. While taking a yoga class, a woman heard about a 7-year-old boy in need of a kidney transplant. Although she wasn’t a match, she still donated one of her kidneys to someone else in need. This started a chain of people who need kidneys and their willing (but not matches) donors to help to find everyone kidneys. The chain involved 70 people, 35 transplants, 25 hospitals, and 15 different states in the U.S. Kindness is everywhere — sometimes you just have to turn over a few rocks to find it. Always keep in mind that just one act of kindness could change the world, and the best part is that it sometimes doesn’t cost a thing!

and may not be able to afford it. It also is a security blanket for those who may have left their wallets at home that day (it happens to the best of us at one point or another!) The way it works is customers who are not able

Summer is one of the best times of the year to travel. Kids are out of school and want to do something fun every weekend, which can be difficult to accommodate if you’ve already exhausted your local options. If you’re looking to travel, you can visit a beach, take in the sights and sounds of an amusement park, or spend some time with animals while visiting a zoo. Nearly every state in our country has a handful of zoos or aquariums, but some stand above the rest. Monkey Around This Summer Check Out Some of America’s Best Zoos

With summer in full swing, electric scooters are making an increased appearance on the road. In fact, electric scooters have the potential to overhaul urban transportation as we know it today. Scooters are convenient, cost-effective, practical, and may even aid in decreasing traffic congestion. However, scooters can be dangerous, too. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has found that injuries resulting from scooter accidents have skyrocketed, with head injuries at the top of the list. If you, your child, or a friend own or ride a scooter, here are some ways to help prevent scooter accidents and keep everyone safe on our roads in the DMV area. Eyes on the Road Don’t roll your eyes at this one. While it’s a common and obvious safety tip, it’s one of the most important things to remember. When riding a scooter, it’s easy to become distracted by the scenery, cars, pedestrians, and buildings surrounding you. However, the road is the most important place to keep your mind, eyes, and body. Not only do you need to be on the lookout for cars, motorcycles, pedestrians, bicyclists, and other scooters, but you must keep your eyes peeled for potholes or other LET’S TALK ABOUT E SAFETY FIRST — ACCIDENT

Here are three of the best zoos you can visit in the U.S.

Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium The Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium in Omaha, Nebraska, is consistently ranked as one of the top five zoos in the world. It prides itself on hosting rare, endangered animals you can’t see elsewhere. It has the world’s largest nocturnal exhibit, and one of the major highlights is the Desert Dome, an 84,000-square-foot indoor desert that maintains an authentic desert ecosystem. This is a must-visit for any animal lover in your family. The Bronx Zoo You don’t usually think about seeing exotic animals when you visit New York City, but the Bronx Zoo is one of the best places to view animals in America. Opened in 1899, the Bronx Zoo is responsible for many of the advancements relating to animal captivity. This was one of the first zoos to ditch cages for natural environments and create an animal hospital. With over 6,000 species, there’s an animal for everyone at the Bronx Zoo. The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens While the San Diego Zoo is often boasted as California’s largest and best zoo, another zoo is worth checking out. The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens outside Palm Springs has entertained visitors for decades. There are events at this zoo every day, one of the most popular being the keeper connections and animal encounters, where you get up close and personal with the animals while learning more about their habitats and lifestyles.

Both Hands on the Handlebars Texting while riding a scooter is one big no-no, especially because, unlike a steering wheel of a car, a scooter can be extra difficult to steer with just one hand. Never allow yourself to get overconfident and take a hand off the handlebars to check your phone, grab a snack, or high-five a friend. Never Forget Your Helmet On today’s roads, there are more things that are out of your control than within your control, and those things can harm ELECTRIC SCOOTERS T AND INJURY PREVENTION

Dressed in protective goggles, blue booties, and a matching vest, this incredible rescue dog became a symbol of hope in Mexico. Frida, a cheerful yellow Labrador retriever, was a devoted member of the Mexican Navy known for her search and rescue skills. Trained to find people trapped under rubble after earthquakes, Frida always worked hard to save lives. Frida became a national hero when a devastating earthquake hit Mexico City in 2017. The 7.1 magnitude earthquake took more than 300 lives and injured many more. While sifting through dangerous debris and aftershocks, Frida saved 12 people after finding them alive while uncovering more than 40 bodies during her lifesaving career. While the nation was devastated by the disaster, this smiley rescue pup brought worldwide attention to the tragedy. Frida’s dedication (and impeccable style) quickly made her an internet celebrity, and soon, murals of the lifesaving canine graced the walls of Mexico City. Even Captain America, aka Chris Evans, gave Frida a shoutout on Twitter, adding, “What did we do to deserve dogs?” The hero dog then traveled the world, helping countries suffering from the aftermath of disastrous earthquakes. Frida saved lives in Haiti and Ecuador before retiring from her position in 2019 at 10 years old to live the rest of her days in comfort and love. Sadly, the Mexican Navy announced Frida’s passing in November 2022 due to old age. She was 13 years old. In her honor, a magnificent bronze statue of Frida, clad in goggles and boots, stands in front of the Mexican Navy office in Mexico City. On the day of her death, the Mexican Navy changed their Twitter banner to an illustration of Frida and spread the hashtag “#HastaSiempreFrida.” Frida will always be remembered for her lifesaving work and the hope she embodied for the entire world. In recent years, social media has changed the way that we share information. Sure, too much screen time is never a good thing, but social media acts as a powerful communication tool, as well as a great source of information — just be sure to do your research and always be on the lookout for false information, scams, and fraud! Social media allows us to connect with family around the world, keep tabs on people we went to high school with, keep up with current trends, be notified of upcoming events, and gain insight into our favorite restaurants, businesses, and celebrities. On June 21, we celebrate National Selfie Day (yes, this one actually exists), and on June 30, World Social Media Day. In honor of both, we’d like to put out a reminder to stay safe online, to always be on the lookout for scams and false information, and above all, to be careful about what you post online — especially when it comes to your case. The best advice that we can give is to avoid sharing anything online about a past or current legal case. Far too often, we’ve seen

cases damaged and credibility tainted by an innocent post on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram.

When used correctly and honestly, social media is one of the best and fastest ways to share information, and here at Malloy Law Offices, we embrace it! Have you ever wondered what to do in the event of a severe head injury? What about if you are involved in a rideshare accident? Do you have questions about a car wreck and who is at fault? How about if you get injured on someone else’s property? On our Facebook page, Facebook.com/MalloyLawOffices , Sean Malloy provides answers to some of your most common questions and more via informational videos, posts, photos, charts, and infographics. Be sure to check us out and follow us on your favorite social media platform!
