ARC scheme information: Linkage Program
The Special Research Initiatives scheme provides funding for new and emerging fields of research and builds capacity in strategically important areas. The scheme supports high- quality research which will assist in advancing Australia’s research excellence to be globally competitive and deliver benefits to the community. The ARC currently funds several Special Research Initiatives in a wide range of research areas.
The ARC Centres of Excellence scheme supports prestigious foci of expertise through which high-quality researchers collaboratively maintain and develop Australia’s international standing in research areas of national priority. ARC Centres of Excellence involve significant collaboration to allow the complementary research resources of universities, publicly funded research organisations, other research bodies, governments and businesses to be concentrated to support outstanding research (in all fields except medical research). The Industrial Transformation Research Hubs scheme supports cutting-edge research on new technologies and economic, commercial and social transformation which support the development
The Linkage Projects scheme supports research and development projects which are collaborative between higher education researchers and other parts of the national innovation system, which are undertaken to acquire new knowledge, and which involve risk or innovation. The Linkage Infrastructure, Equipment and Facilities scheme enables higher education researchers to participate in cooperative initiatives so that expensive infrastructure, equipment and facilities can be shared between higher education organisations and also with industry. The scheme also fosters collaboration through its support of the cooperative use of international or national research facilities.
of research outcomes that benefit industry partners in the Industrial Transformation Priorities. Research Hubs engage Australia’s best researchers in issues facing the new industrial economies and training the future workforce. The scheme supports collaborative research activity between the Australian higher education sector and industry, designed to focus on strategic outcomes not independently realisable. The Industrial Transformation Training Centres scheme fosters close partnerships between university-based researchers and industry to provide innovative Higher Degree by Research and postdoctoral training for the end-user focused research industries vital to Australia’s future.
