“And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent” (Jn. 17:3). “And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true; and we are in him that is true, even in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life” (1 Jn. 5:20). To know that I am His. “ But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him” (1 Jn. 2:5). To know that God is love. “And we have known and believed the. love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him” (1 Jn. 4:16). To know that I am a stranger here. “ For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come” (Heb. 13: 14). “ Knowing that shortly I must put off this 1 my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me” (2 Pet. 1:14), To know that heaven is my home. “ But now they desire a better coun try, that is, a heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their G od: for he hath prepared for them a city”'.(Heb. 11:16). My knowledge o f that life is small; Thfe eye-of faith is dim; But ’tis enough that Christ knows all, And I shall be with Him. H —H. C. F. —o— Foundations 1. The thought is of bearing right on with the wind—all canvas up. Is there a real gale of faith filling the sails o f your soul or are you drifting along with a quarter or half wind?

S E A R C H -L IG H T S FROM THE WORD By Dr. G. Campbell M organ (PermissionFlemingH. RevellCo.)

“H e saved others'. Himself H e ’ cannot save.’’ Mark 15:31. This is one o f the instances of which there are a number, when the enemies of our Lord, in hatred or in mockery, said things about Him which were profoundly true. That may be said to be the whole truth concerning His dying. In order to save others He could not save Himself. His inability was not, as His enemies sug gested, the inability of weakness. It was the inability of eternal strength. It was not that He was unable to save H imself; but rather that He was able to save Him self. Therefore He is able to save to the uttermost all who come unto God through Him. While the great fact is supreme, and in all highest senses lonely in the Person o f the Son o f God, the principle has per petual application in the case of those who share His life, and are called into fellow ship with Him in the work o f saving men. W e have no power to save others, save as we have power not to save ourselves. The claims and desires of the self-life are very insistent. They may be perfectly proper within the limits o f personality. It is only when we have the ability to deny them, in our determination to serve others, that we are approaching the re gion of saving strength. This is the real Christian secret. When at Caesarea Phil ippi, Peter said to His Master, “ Spare Thyself,” he was uttering the words of worldly wisdom—he was minding the things of men. That was why he was so sternly rebuked by Him who, minding the things of God, actuated by the heav enly wisdom, could not spare or save Himself, because He desired to "save others. ■b---------------------------------------------------- 'f READY BIBLE OUTLINES i. ----------------------------------------------------* Exhortation o f the Word (Deut. 6:4-9; 2 Tim. 3:14-17) Hear the Word 1. (b) Message in the heart (vs. 5, 6 ), “my words abide in you” (Jn. 15:7). Teach the Word 1. Teach (v. 7). 2. - Commit (2 Tim. 2:2 ), “that they may teach others.” (a) Perpetuate.

The Modern Minimizer B y F rancis L. P atton The modern minimizer o f the Gospel takes a few tablets of doctrine, dissolves them in a gallon or two o f the rosewater of sentimentality, puts a little in an atomizer, and sprays the congregation to an accompani ment of the sweetness o f Chris tianity and the fragrance o f a benevolent life. The -New Tes tament tells but one story— that man is a sinner, that he has been redeemed, that the only way of salvation is through faith in Jesus Christ. Don’t talk to me about “value judgments." You can’t believe with all your heart what you have already rejected with all your head.
