Demonstrating a very high standard of finish in a complex build, whilst refurbishing an existing three-storey building and constructing a new multi-purpose theatre space, QMAC Construction triumphed in the category. Providing an impressive facility for the local community, the project incorporates historic photographs of the local community on façade elements including a large vertical folding door that opens the theatre space fully to the street. Sustainable reuse of the existing buildings on the site alongside new construction has created a bright, welcoming space with great workmanship. The centre has also injected life and vibrancy into the Fountain area of the city, potentially inspiring further regeneration. Social/Community Construction Project of the Year, below £2.5m WINNER: QMAC CONSTRUCTION - NEW GATE ARTS & CULTURE CENTRE REDEVELOPMENT, DERRY
GRAHAM’s £12m project for Translink delivers both engineering excellence and regeneration, attracting more people to use public transport and creating a greener city for everyone. The demolished former station has been replaced with accessible, high-quality customer and staff facilities, footbridge and platform canopies, and a bus and taxi drop off area. Public facilities include retail space, toilets, waiting and changing areas, alongside 70 secure cycle parking spaces and connections to the existing National Cyle Route infrastructure. Platform widths have been increased to aid passenger congestion at peak times, while a new high-quality public realm creates an attractive space for passengers, showcasing a landmark public art feature. Transport & Utilities Project of the Year, above £10m WINNER: GRAHAM - YORK STREET TRAIN STATION, BELFAST
