A site visit by the judging panel found many residents addressing GEDA Construction’s community liaison manager on a first- name basis, highlighting the positivity behind this community partnership. Setting a new benchmark for urban flood management, community and client engagement were cornerstones of the project, with regular updates and interactive platforms keeping stakeholders informed and involved. Innovative engineering techniques, such as tunnelling beneath Ravenhill Road, minimised disruption to the community and traffic. Activities such as school visits, local business engagements and community projects enhanced community relations and contributed positively to the local society. Completed in December 2023, the project has successfully managed significant rainfall events without any flooding incidents. Achieving Excellence in Partnering Award WINNER: GEDA CONSTRUCTION - RAVENHILL AVENUE FLOOD ALLEVIATION SCHEME, BELFAST
Outstanding Contributor of the Year WINNER: TERINA MCDERMOTT, MCKELVEY CONSTRUCTION
Outstanding Contributor of the Year Terina McDermott joined the construction sector 15 years ago and has made her mark since coming on board with McKelvey Construction in 2021. Bringing a fresh pair of eyes to the role of bid manager, Terina has introduced new systems and initiatives across the workforce, placing renewed focus on sustainability, health and wellbeing, and social value. Targeting tenders to better mirror McKelvey Construction’s strengths, she has also secured significant work and contributed to a significant rise in turnover. Darren McKelvey, Managing Director, said, “Her contributions to the Bid Team have been instrumental in tripling turnover and increasing profitability seven-fold within three years, while also entering new markets such as BREEAM Excellent and Design & Build projects. “Alongside commercial growth, McKelvey’s directors recognised the need for progressive reform. Despite limited resources, Terina has worked tirelessly to bring this new vision to life, conducting industry research, engaging with staff at all levels, and championing significant improvements across the company, not just for the betterment of directors but also for employees, subcontractors and the general locality.” Outside of work, Terina volunteers as a committee member, supervisor and secretary for her local youth group, delivering recreational and educational activities for children. She also uses her bid-writing skills to help local voluntary organisations secure support.
