extensive room reconfiguring and redecorating. Cathal Morgan, Contracts Manager, said, “Felix O’Hare has a long-standing history with Queen’s, and this adds to our quality portfolio of projects successfully handed over within the university’s estate, showcasing our ability to manage a high-end specification build with attention to detail while maximising positive environmental impact. “Site management and engineering requirements were crucial due to the complexity of structural and finishing elements of the build, with focus on the M&E coordination, given the building’s concrete frame. “Felix O’Hare exceeded all requirements for expert commissioning management to satisfy the client’s needs. Given the build timing during the pandemic and global market conditions, health and safety and cost management were prioritised.” Judges said, “Congratulations to Felix O’Hare for delivering a magnificent building that the contractor, and the entire Northern Ireland construction industry, can be proud of as a symbol of what we can achieve.”

High-quality landscaping and subtle use of materials ensure the new building blends perfectly into the curtilage of the original listed Riddell Hall, while providing world-class facilities for staff and students at Queen’s University Belfast. The catalyst facility adds a new purpose-built teaching facility with lecture theatres, seminar rooms, computer labs, office spaces, cafés and social green spaces. High-quality finishes include board-marked concrete, oak panelling and terrazzo tile detailing, while exterior works feature an extensive sedum green roof, underground parking area, access roads and landscaping.
