LISMORE COLLEGE, CRAIGAVON
ACHIEVING HIGH STANDARDS IN EDUCATIONAL, OPERATIONAL AND SUSTAINABLE PERFORMANCE, LISMORE COLLEGE HAS BEEN DESIGNED AND CONSTRUCTED WITH COMMUNITY ACCESS IN MIND… A TRANSFORMATIVE MILESTONE IN THE EDUCATIONAL LANDSCAPE
Representing a visionary effort to create an inclusive, forward-thinking educational institution, Lismore College takes pride of place in OHMG Construction’s portfolio. Replacing one of Northern Ireland’s largest schools amid ongoing operation of the old college, it also proved a complex project for the main contractor. The challenge was met, however, with OHMG successfully delivering a new £31m post-primary comprehensive school spanning 15,800sqm with capacity for 1,200 pupils. School facilities meet Department of Education requirements, achieving high standards in educational, operational and sustainable performance. Supporting the comprehensive model, a
580sqm Learning Support Centre serves as a hub for inclusive education, designed to operate independently or seamlessly integrate with the broader school framework. Recognising that the school has an important social role within the community, it has been designed with community access in mind, extending to its pitches used by local sports clubs at the weekend. Sporting amenities include a 700sqm hall and gymnasium with folding walls to facilitate multiple uses, 3G all-weather, soccer and GAA pitches, and four tennis courts. A spacious dining facility has been strategically positioned to offer panoramic views to the south, embracing
the semi-rural surroundings and creating a conducive environment for students. Extensive collaboration with key stakeholders was critical to the success of the venture. OHMG worked closely with the Education Authority, Department of Education and local community representatives to ensure the design aligned with their collective vision.
