complexities the project incurred, including working adjacent to the existing school.” OHMG was tasked with ensuring the health and safety of all students, parents and teachers throughout the duration of the build, with works running from 2021 to 2024 and including construction of the new school followed by demolition of the old building and associated site works. The new structure features single-, two- and three-storey elements, with works also extending to a car park, bus drop- off-area, landscaped green open space and spacious front courtyard to create a welcoming entrance. Sustainability was a major focus of the project, with the client specification including a BREEAM accreditation of Excellent and EPC rating of B. With M&E services playing an important role in achieving the BREEAM accreditation, OHMG worked closely with Harvey Group to ensure maximum points were achieved. Mixed mode ventilation was incorporated with heat recovery from solar thermal energy, alongside high levels of insulation
and air tightness, high-efficiency gas boilers, low E glazing and low-energy lighting systems and water harvesting. Further elements include brise-soleil integrated with curtain-walling and optimisation of cut-and-fill earthworks to reduce waste. OHMG complied with accredited procedures ISO9001, ISO14001, ISO4500 and ISO14064 throughout the project, while enhancing project efficiency and stakeholder collaboration through BIM modelling, 4D programming and use of a common data environment. Project management included weekly meetings to monitor KPI performance and address any technical issues, while liaison with the local community was conducted via monthly newsletters throughout the works. For OHMG, the project demonstrates its commitment to excellence and collaborative planning and represents a transformative milestone in the educational landscape, embracing the needs of both current and future generations of learners. “We would also like to give a special
thanks to our supply chain partners for the standard of workmanship delivered,” said Seanie. “Finally, I would like to wish the staff and pupils of Lismore College lots of success in their new school, which will create a legacy for the local community.” With a turnover of around £80m, OHMG is one of Northern Ireland’s premier contractors.
