Healthy Coping
Pregnancy is an exciting time. It can also be a stressful time. You might feel like there are changes happening everywhere: inside your body, in your relationship with your spouse or partner, and in your extended family. You may be thinking about getting your home ready for your new baby, taking time off from work, or finding childcare. All these decisions can feel like too much. And when you add gestational diabetes to the mix, you may start to feel nervous, upset, or angry. If you can relate, try taking some extra time just for yourself each day. Some things that might help are: • Meditation or prayer • Picturing a happy scene in your mind
• Physical exercise • Deep breathing • Writing in a journal • Talking to a therapist • Humor: watching funny movies • Talking to a friend
If you think you might need more help than just the ideas listed here, don’t hesitate to ask. Reach out to your doctor or your CCS Diabetes Educator. We’re here to help you and we would be happy to help you find the resources you need to cope. Remember that gestational diabetes is not your fault.
