What’s Next? High blood sugar in pregnancy comes with some risks right now. It also means there are some risks for you and your baby in the future. Here are those future risks: • Your baby has a higher risk of becoming overweight • You and your baby both have a higher chance of getting type 2 diabetes • There is a higher chance that you will have high blood sugar if you become pregnant again If that sounds stressful, don’t worry. Just because you have some increased risks doesn’t mean that you have an unhealthy future. You can do a great job of taking care of yourself and your baby while you’re pregnant. We’ll be with you every step of the way to help make sure you have a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby. We’ll make sure you know what you need to eat and how important it is to make time to be active. We’ll help you learn about insulin if you need it, and we’ll be an extra pair of eyes watching over your blood sugars to make sure they stay right where you want them. You can do a great job of taking care of yourself and your new baby after you give birth, too. Talk with your healthcare providers and plan to eat healthfully and live an active life. The end of your pregnancy is the perfect time to begin a lifetime of healthy habits for your new family.
