A near fine copy, excep- tionally clean and crisp with some translucent splash marks to the rear cover. [43767] £9,500 The author’s scarce first book, one of only 1500 copies. Eric Arthur Blair asked his agent to “...please see that it is published pseudonymously, as I am not proud of it.” When asked for suggestions for the pseudonym he wrote, “I rather favour George Orwell”. Despite the au- thor’s lack of confidence in the book it was well received, with a recommendation from the Book Society and two reprints within the first month. Fenwick A.1
