PHILIPPIANS 3:15, following the Apostle Paul's urging to forget the past and to press on for the upward calling, he turns directly to admonish, "And if in anything ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you." It was his desire that believers should be totally certain of God's guidance. You see, all of life bears on God's calling in our lives. It is interesting to realize how these huge commercial airliners with radar are kept on their cours es. The pilot may not always see what is coming, particularly in bad weather. Yet the plane can be flown safely with these important instru ments and equipment. A deviation either to the right or to the left will bring an instant warning. This is how the Lord wants to guide us as well. We are never promised that we will be able to see more than one step ahead at a time. We still can have the confidence, howev er, that the Lord sees the end even from the beginning. This is the ba sis for assurance in our facing the uncertain future. Have you ever stopped to realize that God is even more interested in revealing His purpose to you than you are to understand it? All that the Lord has ever done has been directed to this particular end. When He made the world it was to reveal Himself to those who would eventually live in it (Romans 1:20). When the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments were written, this too was to reveal God to man. And finally, so does our heavenly Father reveal His person ality in His own Son the Lord Jesus Christ (John 14:9). Really, it is im possible for a Christian who wants to know the will of God for His life Page 38
