Purpose of Miracles The purpose of miracles as wrought by Christ during His ministry and by the apostles during the establishment of the early church. It has been stated by some that mi­ racles were the normal incidents of the earthly kingdom and the proof that Jesus was offering to the Jews a literal earthly kingdom. What are the clear statements of the Word as to the pur­ pose of miracles? 1. Matt. 8:16-17. Jesus healed dis­ eases to demonstrate that He was the One who should take our infirmities and bear our sicknesses as foretold by Isaiah. 2. Mark 2:10-11. Jesus’ healing mi­ racles were to identify Him as the One who had power to forgive sins. 3. Mk. 16:15, 16, 20. Miracles were to confirm the message of salvation as of divine origin. 4. John 5:36. Jesus’ wonderful works were to bear witness that He was the One sent of the Father. See John 3:2. 5. John 10:25. Jesus’ miracles were a proof that He was the. Christ, the Son of God. 6 . John 14:11.
