Says Dr. Griffith-Thomas: “ More than at any period in this age we are encouraged to pray for the peace of Jerusalem. There is much that points to the probability that this generation shall not pass away till all these things will be fulfilled. “ In view of this we are persuaded that it is in accord with the Divine plan that the Church should seek in every way to press its work of evangelizing the Jew. It is a time when in every way we should seek to permeate the whole of Jewry with a knowledge of what their own prophets have said about the suffering and the reigning Messiah. “ Especially would we urge young men and young women, Gentiles, to give themselves to the great work of making Christ known to the Jew.” A Singular Project A singular project for tunnelling the Judean mountain ridge to carry the water of the Mediterranean under Jerusalem to a height eastward where it will fall into the Dead Sea, is out lined by Mr. Albert Hiorth, a Civil .en gineer of Christiania, Norway, in a pamphlet, “ Palestine Restored; Con cerning the Colonization of Palestine” (Hodder and Stoughton. 6 d). Mr. Hiorth claims various important results for commerce from this project, according to The Zionist Review. In a far better way and with richer results than this grandiose plan of man, God has already provided for the re demption and sweetening of the waters of the Dead Sea. Certain remarkable prophecies in Ezekiel 47:1-12; Joel 3:18; Zech. 14:4, 8 , 10, foretell mighty changes in Palestine in the future,

D. M. Panton says: “ The blackest of thunderclouds hangs at this moment over the head of the Jew.” A writer of the front rank says: “ The truly appalling thing is that throughout Russia and a great part of Eastern and Central Europe ‘Bolshe vism’ and ‘Jewry’ are coming to he re garded as synonymous terms. What this will mean when the Reds collapse, as collapse they will, it is easy to imagine. It will mean the most frightful pogrom ever perpetrated. There will be no stay ing the thirst for revenge on the part of the millions who have groaned under Bolshevist tyranny, and who will ‘take it out’ of every Jew and Jewess whom they can reach (Times, Sept. 24, 1919).” Mr. Paul Dukes, the official director of British intelligence in Russia, says: “ So far as I could gather from non- Bolshevist Jews, about half the Jews in Russia support the Bolshevist regime. This is an enormous percentage com pared with the proportion of Russians who support it, and it is unfortunately true that amongst the people both in Soviet Russia and outside it the idea is prevalent that Bolshevism is ‘run by the Jews’ (Times, Nov. 11, 1919).” The peril that overhangs Israel, fore tastes of which are already upon her, springs from far deeper causes, and was voiced once for all by our Lord on the way to the Cross: “ Daughters of Jerusa lem, weep not for Me, but weep for yourselves and for your children” (Luke 23:28). The self-malediction— “ His blood be on us, and on our children” (Matt. 27:26)— has loosened unceasing judgment on the Jew down all the Gospel ages.”
