King's Business - 1920-09

THE KING' S BUSINESS have been hearing about, sat upon a beautiful throne of ivory covered with gold; there were six steps leading up to his throne. All the drinking cups and dishes of the king were of gold. How wonderful this all seems to us, hut you know King Solomon had some thing more wonderful than all this, for in answer to his prayer God gave him wisdom that he might be a good king. Let us how our heads and ask Jesus to help us to know just the right thing to do at all times. Lesson Story. Soon people in other countries far off heard of the wonderful temple King Solomon had built and the fine home for himself, which was called a palace, hut the people in far off countries also heard of his wonder ful wisdom, and that he knew about the true God and trusted in Him. The queen of a far off country, called Sheba, heard about the wise king, and she came to visit him. The queen ordered her servants to get ready for the jour ney to the king’s country. She took with her costly spices such as grew in her country and gold and precious stones. Do you think she rode in a fine automobile in her journey to King Solomon? No, her automobile was a great big animal, with a hump on his back, that kneeled down so the queen could get a seat on his back. Yes, it was a camel, and there was a great string of camels carrying her servants and the precious things she was carry ing up to the king. The queen of Sheba had a number of hard questions to ask the king, for she had heard of his wonderful wisdom, and she wanted to see if it was really true that he was so wise. As the queen talked with Sol omon and asked him hard questions about the things she wanted -to know, he was able to answer all her ques tions, and explained to her everything she asked him. The queen of Sheba looked at the beautiful palace in which the king lived, the large number of ser-

TJie sacrifices which men make for lower objects are the most power ful rebukes of their unwillingness to make sacrifices for the highest, just as their capacity of love and trust is of their not loving and trusting Him.— Maclaren. v. 8 . Happy are thy men. With much more reason may we say this of Christ’s servants, “ Blessed are those that dwell in His house. They will still be praising Him.”—Henry-. v. 9. Blessed be the Lord. It is quite possible, as Jewish writers say, that this queen was converted through Solomon’s influence to the worship of the true God.— J. F. & B. v. 10. She gave. He who honors the Lord will give Him his substance as well as his sentiment.— Sel. v. 13. Whatsoever she asked. Those who apply to our Lord Jesus will find Him not only greater than Solomon and wiser, hut more kind. Whatsoever we ask shall he done for us, nay, He will do for us more than we are able to ask or think.—Henry. She turned and went. She received of him bless ings and gifts hut not being his own, she could not remain and reign with him. When Christ, the Son of David, reigns, we shall reign with Him (Rev. 20:6).— Stillion. j|| A Queen Visits a King. 1 Kings 10:1-13. Memory Verse: “ For wisdom is bet ter than rubies.” Prov. 8:11.
