If a young person would like to create a recovery plan: – Encourage them to have ownership over it, so that they feel connected to their decision-making and motivated to use it in future. – Ask them if they would like support reading the questions or writing their thoughts down. – Suggest that they keep their support plan in an easily accessible place, where they are likely to see it if in crisis, for example by their front door and/or on their phone etc. It may also be helpful for you to keep a copy of the support plan in a safe place, if they give you their permission. Wellbeing approaches In addition to individual self-help strategies, young people can use or follow sets of approaches to improve or maintain their mental health. Youth MHFAiders can share and talk through these approaches with the young person to determine appropriate self- help strategies.
