‘Queer’ is a term used by people wanting to reject specific labels and the perceived norms of the LGBTQIA+ community. You should only refer to a person as ‘queer’ if they self-identify this way and request that you use it – otherwise you should avoid this term as it is still viewed as being a slur by many people. ‘Intersex’ is an umbrella term used to describe a person who was born with sex characteristics that do not fit typical binary notions of male and female bodies.
