Supporting a LGBTQIA+ young person cont.

Be sensitive when sharing resources and contact information. Young transgender or intersex people who identify as heterosexual may not feel part of either the LGBTQIA+ or straight communities, leading to reduced support. Similarly, a bisexual young person may not feel part of either community because they can face prejudice from both. Using your MHFAider app or the Hub of Hope website directly, explore targeted help local to the young person using the support tags e.g., ‘LGBTQ+.’ If the young person is experiencing poor mental health due to bullying, harassment, or discrimination, you should let the young person know that they can: – Report it, if it is safe to do so – Pursue their rights – Contact a support or advocacy service for young LGBTQIA+ people However, you should not push them to act if they don’t want to.
