Other specified feeding and eating disorder (OFSED) Eating disorders are very complex which means that there can be variations in the typical signs and symptoms. Not all of the signs and symptoms will apply to all young people. A diagnosis of OFSED has replaced EDNOS (Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified), which was a diagnosis given to people who didn’t fall into the typical categories of other eating disorders. Other, less common eating disorders include: Avoidant restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID) , a condition characterised by the young person avoiding certain foods or types of food, having restricted intake in terms of overall amount eaten, or both. ARFID might look quite different in each young person and so is sometimes described as an ‘umbrella’ term that includes a range of difficulties around eating (210).
