Gaming disorder affects only a small proportion of people who engage in gaming activities. However, all young people should be alert to the amount of time they spend on gaming activities, particularly when it is to the exclusion of other daily activities. For gaming disorder to be diagnosed, the behaviour pattern must be evident for at least twelve months and have resulted in significant impairment in personal, family, and social settings. It must also have impaired educational or occupational functioning (243).
