Recovery is a deeply personal process, but young people don’t recover in isolation – social inclusion and involvement in local communities is a cornerstone of recovery. This means that mental health is everyone’s business. The attitudes and beliefs that society holds about mental health have a powerful impact on someone’s life (89). For many young people recovery flourishes as they gain opportunities to be actively in control of their lives. This may include retaining choice over treatment, or finding ways of helping themselves in ways that suit them.
