Many young people will have to wait long periods of time between developing poor mental health and receiving appropriate treatment and support. It is important that young people are supported by their family, friends, and education staff during this time (92). It’s during this early intervention phase that Youth MHFA plays an important role, including positive coping strategies and self-care activities. Whilst positive coping strategies can help to improve poor mental health, it should be known that for some young people with poor mental health being proactive can be challenging.
