Experience Magazine Hildesheim – City and Region 2025

AT THE CHRISTMAS MARKET To round out the evening, we invite you to our beautiful Christmas market. From 25 November to 28 December, the Market Square, Platz An der Lilie and the pedestrian area become a haven for people to enjoy the last hours of the day in a delightful atmosphere. It’s the perfect way to get into the Christmas spirit during the festive season. Traditional wooden huts, with the design of their facades drawing on the half-tim- bered style of old Hildesheim buildings, ensure a cosy atmo- sphere. The Christmas tree, standing more than ten metres tall, is always an astonishing sight, not least because it is decked with more than 7,500 LED lights. The great Christmas pyramid, small fairground rides and the romantic Ferris wheel provide entertainment for visitors young and old. Fascinating handicrafts and regional delicacies such as Hildesheim Cathe- dral Stollen, Hildesheim Truffles and Hildesheim Rosentaler make it a very special experience.

A MAGICAL CHRISTMAS JOURNEY

Hildesheim shows off one of its most beautiful sides in the run-up to Christmas: With or without snow, the city centre shines from the end of November thanks to a multitude of lights. The winter season transforms the city centre into a de- lightful interplay of fragrant delicacies, warm lights and many Christmas surprises. Every year, this is the perfect way to get into the festive spirit.

Whether as a romantic couple or with the whole family, the “Christmas Magic in Hildesheim” package offers the opportunity to enjoy the

address. Thanks to a collaboration with Deutsche Post, children can post the letter they’ve written or the picture they’ve drawn locally at the Hildesheim branch of the Christ- mas post office or drop it into the post box there during the Hildesheim Christmas market. ADVENT MUSIC IN THE CHURCHES Hildesheim is a city with more than 30 churches, so you shouldn’t forget about them amongst the magic of Christmas in Hildesheim. These churches shape the cityscape, and are a testament to the city’s rich history. In the Christmas period, there are various free events such as the annual “Advent music by candlelight” concert at the UNESCO World Heritage St Michael’s Church or the Advent Concert at St Andrew’s Church. They provide a tranquil retreat full of music for ever- yone during this sometimes hectic period. A short trip to the magical cathedral city in the lead-up to Christmas is always well worth it. There is so much to discover and so many opportunities to be enchanted.

THROUGH FESTIVE HILDESHEIM A public Christmas tour around the festive cathedral city gives you a closer look at the historic cityscape. The tour starts at 5 pm every Friday and Saturday on the Advent weekends and includes a warming Glühwein (mulled wine) or punch per person. The route takes you along the be- autifully lit streets around the historic Market Square, accompanied by the delicious fragrances of various Leb- kuchen, roasted almonds and Schmalzkuchen (bite-sized doughnuts).
