TRACK DESCRIPTION Secondary appointments are given to faculty members in the College of Medicine who have primary appointments in one department, but make significant contributions to another department. A secondary appointment in the college may also be awarded to a faculty member whose primary appointment is in another college of the university. Faculty members with secondary appointments must comply with the RPT criteria of the secondary department. CRITERIA FOR APPOINTMENT, REAPPOINTMENT, OR PROMOTION The criteria for initial appointment, reappointment, and promotion are those of that secondary track to which the individual is appointed. The term of the secondary appointment shall coincide with that of the primary appointment except when the individual is tenured in the primary department. Application for reappointment is submitted at the same time for both the primary and secondary department. When the primary appointment of the faculty member ceases, regardless of the cause or reason, the secondary appointment automatically is terminated at the same time. If the individual is tenured in the primary department, then the secondary appointment is for a period defined by the secondary department, but not to exceed five years. Reappointment in the secondary department at the end of five years ispossible. All secondary appointments within a department will be reviewed whenever a new director is named. A new departmental director, at his/her discretion, may terminate any secondary appointments prior to their ending dates.
