Pathology GEO - FACULTY HANDBOOK

-

Teaching effort level3: • Directing a graduate or medical school course. • Initiating a new graduate or medical school course. • Serving as Director of the PMM committee. • Mentoring 1 or more students for the Ph.D. degree. • Winning a medical center or University-wide teaching award.

Research (Non-tenure) Track - The expectation of the Department of Pathology is that individuals on the Research Track will be primarily tasked to research related activities. Teaching expectations for individuals in this track are generally less extensive than those on the Research Tenure Track and are usually spelled out in the initial appointment letter provided by the Department Director. If individuals in this track are required to teach, then the expectations are similar to those for the same rank in the Research Tenure Track (see below) adjusted for the percent effort specified for teaching. Research Tenure Track - Individuals on the Research Tenure track must demonstrate a consistent record of active and enthusiastic participation in Departmental teaching activities. The table below shows minimally acceptable teaching requirements for individuals applying for (or requesting reappointment to) each research tenure track position.

Tenure - The Department of Pathology expects that individuals applying for Tenure show evidence that teaching is an integral part of their career and world view. To be eligible for Tenure, the applicant must meet the general requirements for the appropriate career level as indicated in the above table. However, those qualifications must include the following: 1. At least three years of on-going and significant participation in didactic courses offered by the Department or PMM program with positive reviews from students and course directors.
