Michaelmas Term 2025 Activities Brochure

Pre-Prep, Juniors, Middles and Seniors early morning, weekdays and Saturdays

Activities Programme

In this booklet you will find details of our morning, after school and Saturday morning activity options for the Michaelmas term 2025.

Alongside each activity, you will see which year groups can attend, the staff member leading together with start and finish times. Activities which incur a charge are show in pink. Charges for these booked activities are billed in arrears and will be shown on your next bill.

Activities can be booked via SOCs. SOCS Login (socscms.com) The portal opens for booking on 21 July at 9.00am and closes on 20 August at 6.00pm.

For any queries relating to activities, please contact Paul Shouksmith (pshouksmith@standrewsprep.co.uk)

Compulsory and Voluntary Activities and Signing Up Below is an explanation of which activity sessions are compulsory and which are optional for each year group.

Pre-Prep and Juniors – Reception to Year 4 All activities for the Pre-Prep and Juniors are outside the school day and are, therefore, entirely optional. When signing up for activities: • If your child does not wish to take part in any activities in a particular session please just leave that section • Put your child’s first choice activity as number 1 • Put any other activities that they would be happy to do if choice number 1 is full in order of preference • Choose “No activity” as the final choice Middles and Seniors Years 5 to 8 All children in Years 5 to 8 must opt for activities in session 2 (4.15pm to 4.50pm) and 3 (4.55pm to 5.30pm) on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. There is, however, Chapel / Assembly on Friday session 2 which children will be automatically added to. Similarly, session 3 on Friday will be a tutor time for Years 5 and 6. Children signing up for Saturday mornings do not need to sign up for all 4 sessions. However, please ensure that activities are consecutive. For example, they should not sign up for sessions 1 and 3 with nothing in session 2. If children in Years 5 to 8 wish to do any activities in session 4 or any early morning, lunchtime activities or Saturday morning activities, these are completely optional. When signing up for activities: • If your child does not wish to take part in any activities in a particular session please just leave that section • Put your child’s first choice activity as number 1 • Put any other activities that they would be happy to do if choice number 1 is full in order of preference • Choose “No activity” as the final choice Please note that, only making one choice in a session does NOT increase the likelihood of being allocated to that activity. If your child is in Years 5 to 8 and they have something on outside school which means that they will be unable to take part in activities during session 2 and 3 on a regular basis please contact Paul Shouksmith, the Deputy Head, to seek permission for this. On SOCS please choose “out of school” for the relevant se ssions.

Absence from chargeable activities Many parents raise queries regarding the charges for activities. Most of these queries relate to activities which have been missed for one reason or another. The policy is very similar to the policy for missed music lessons but to clarify matters for both parents (and those taking activities), our policy is outlined below:

You will not be charged if a teacher or coach is absent from an activity session and there is no one available to cover the activity.

You will not be charged when a child is absent due to another school event.

You will be charged for activity sessions if a child is absent due to illness or a term time holiday.

You will be charged when a child forgets to appear punctually for a session.

Prep Expectations Weekly expectations of workload: Year 5 and Year 6 should attend 1 or 2 prep sessions, per week. Year 7 and Year 8 should attend 2 or 3 prep sessions per week. If a child attends no prep sessions or has more prep than the number of sessions they are in, they will be expected to complete assigned work at home. Prep will be set for the following purposes: • To consolidate learning • To allow time for pre learning • To provide extension learning opportunities • To provide preparation time for project work • Revision • Vocabulary Development Year 5 and Year 6

Weekly: English, Maths and Science

French and Latin vocabulary revision, Spelling practice, Reading

Year 7 and Year 8

Weekly: English, Maths, Science, French vocabulary, Latin vocabulary
