MIDDLE WESTERN PROVINCE

DAMON O. BARRY, ESQ.

and Budget Committee and rep- resented the Black Student Union on ASUW from 1992 and 1993. I served as Pageant Chairman and Producer for the Miss Black Uni- versity of Washington from 1992- 1994. While at the University of Washington, I founded the B. F. Day Elementary School Mentor/Tutor- ing program for ethnically diverse “at-risk” students. UW athletes and brothers of Kappa Alpha Psi ® were able to participate in the program and receive college credits. Finally, I co-founded United People Corpora- tion, a non-profit that was dedicated to helping others by improving society and doing a great service for the community. We attempted to bring racial harmony by developing character, honor, integrity and moral behavior to young students. In an effort to reach our ultimate goal, we created a program called Race Relations 2000 which was geared towards secondary institutions. The purpose of the program was to inform and enlighten students about particular racial problems that exist within academic institutions as well as our entire society. Through the program, our goal was to empower and enable students to successfully handle a broad range of racial inflic- tion placed upon them by their peers and others. Finally, as Co-founder of “Husky 4 Kids,” an auction devel- oped in 1993 (by my older brother Jay Barry—an All American Tailback for UW), which was held at the University of Washington and raised over $35,000 to be donated to a named non-profit organization. Journal: What type of law do you practice and how do your efforts benefit the community? Barry: My practice areas are as fol- lows: Business and Finance, Merg- ers and Acquisitions/Private Eq- uity, Emerging Growth and Private Capital, Securities. On a daily basis, I advise clients on the formation of new businesses, franchising, mergers

Barry: During my time at the University of Washington, I was very involved in campus activities and community services. I played wide receiver and was a three time letter- man on the University of Washing- ton Football team, where we made three consecutive Rose Bowl appear- ances and won the 1991 National Championship. I was a member of the All PAC-1O Academic Team and on the Dean’s List—1991, 1993 and 1994. Outside of football, I was also very active on campus. I became a member of Gamma Eta Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi ® on March 6, 1992. After serving as Exchequer and Polemarch of the Gamma Eta Chap- ter I was elected to serve on the Middle Western Board of Directors. At the 72 nd Grand Chapter Meet- ing in Philadelphia, I was bestowed the Guy L. Grant Award by Grand Polemarch Robert L. Harris, Esq. Outside of Kappa, I served on the Associated Students at the Universi- ty of Washington (“ASUW”) Finance

Journal: Please talk about the role the law played in your life? Barry: Like most things, I have had positive and negative experiences with the law. But, what I will say is the law and my legal education has exposed me to experiences and opportunities that I may never have seen if I did not practice law, as well as affording me a comfort- able lifestyle. As a result of being an attorney, I have traveled, lived and practiced all over the world from New York, California, and Florida to London, England, Bogota, Columbia, Rome, Italy and Munich, Germany, just to name a few. Most importantly, because of my law practice, I was able to re-unite with my college sweetheart in London, England and now she is my wife— Heather Barry. Journal : What were you involved in campus service, athletics or commu- nity wise, while in college?
