NORTH CENTRAL PROVINCE

Province Polemarch by embracing the “power of presence.” What I mean by that is that I attend (or, at least, try to attend) as many chap- ter events as possible. First, doing this is truly in the role of Province Polemarch to conduct chapter visits. However, it allows me to actually meet brothers where they are. I also allow brothers to see me as a brother as well as Province

Journal: What advice would you give to those who want to pur- sue a career your profession? Kilpatrick: Focus on the details. The work is high profile within the utility and the organization’s cred- ibility is influenced by the work product produced. You have to be guided by what is fixed, known and measurable. It is important to focus on what you know and not what you think. Everything you do will be scrutinized as it must be able to withstand counterpoints from inter- vening parties.

Polemarch. These visits have cre- ated a frequency of interaction that has helped me to build or enhance relationships with brothers individu- ally. This has been invaluable when asking brothers to support various initiatives or, in those infrequent occasions, where I needed to deliver information where my decision may have differed from the brother or chapter. Having the foundation of a relationship was helpful because the difference of opinion was seen as a “bump in the road” rather than an erosion of trust.

Journal: Why is your province the best in Kappa Alpha Psi ® ?

Kilpatrick: The North Central is the best because we look to put brotherhood above all other things. I could talk about the rich history of the Province that is the history of the Fraternity. I could talk about
