The 83 rd Grand Chapter Meeting Comes to Orlando, Florida
T he 83 rd Grand Chapter Meeting is almost here. Much planning has gone into preparing for every detail. From presentations at Grand Board Meet- ings, to site tours, to conference calls around logistics behind the upcoming activities, the Grand Board of Directors, its commissions and committees have considered the benefits and costs of each event, as well as reviewed each petition and application and determined who among the submissions is worthy to come before the Grand Chapter. There will be thousands of brothers and guests circulating through the Conclave from July 18-22, 2017. The keeper of the plan, the coordi- nator of the smooth transitions from hour to hour and day to day, falls to the Grand Chapter Meeting Planning Committee Chairman simply known as “KJ.” In between meetings Kevin “KJ” Johnson (Xi 1980) Grand Chapter Meeting (GCM) Planner and
President of National Coalition of Black Meeting Planners (NCBMP) took a (small) break from his activities to sit down with the Journal to provide in- sight into the process of planning for Kappa Alpha Psi ® meetings and events. Journal: What goes into planning a GCM? KJ: Dedicated teamwork, many hours of hard work, anchored by having great organizational skills. As the National Meeting Planner and Chairman of the Meeting Planning Committee, these items are cornerstones to assisting the fraternity to produce world class events for our members.
Journal: As president of the NCBMP, what are some of the issues the group focuses on?
KJ: For the past 35 years, our organization’s pri- mary focus has been educating our members on the
