The Six-Point Plan, From the View of a Grand Board Member of Kappa Alpha Psi ® Ronald V. Julun Grand Board Member

youth. During a Learn 2 Live program in Chicago, I was alarmed by the many negative interaction between youth and law enforcement. Journal: What is your profession? Julun: ConocoPhillips has been my employer for more than 29 years. I am currently a Senior System Analyst/ Team Leader for the Commercial Gas and Power IT Team located in Houston, Texas. Journal: Why are you passionate about what you do? Julun: Kappa has had a significant im- pact on my life. So many opportunities (professional and social) were available to me because of my affiliation with the fraternity. My plan is to prepare Kappa for my son and the next generation. I want to make Kappa a great Fraternity. Journal: What motto do you live by? Julun: “Use your God given gifts to help make the world a better place.” Journal: Do you have a favorite book? Julun: Good to Great by Jim Collins. This book helps to keep me focused as I attain leadership positions in Kappa and within my profession. Journal: How did you find Kappa Alpha Psi ® ? Julun: Chicago State University (Theta Zeta Chapter) The Kappas ran the yard at Chicago State University. They were kool, kalm, kollective, konservative and konceited. Everyone admired them.

Journal: How would you assess Kappa’s Six Point Plan as we head into the 83 rd Grand Chapter Meeting? Julun: In my opinion, Kappa has exceeded its goals in the 6-Point plan. Community Service: Kappa Kamp has trained 125+ young men for leadership at its two-week camp at Paul Quinn Col- lege. The Learn 2 Live program teaches our youth how to interact and respect law enforcement. This program is co-sponsored with the National Association of Black Law En- forcement. Infrastructure: New technol- ogy tools are being implemented at IHQ which will have a significant impact on work-flow processes. Undergraduate Development: ULI and Lead Kappa continue to prepare young men for leadership positions tomorrow. Reclama- tion: Approximately 200 brothers have returned to Kappa due to the reclama- tion programs implemented by the 33 rd Administration. Membership Training: The MTA program is a state-of-the-art training program to prepare men being initiated into Kappa with a solid founda- tion that makes an instantaneous impact on the fraternity. Executive Leadership & Succession Planning: This is an area that needs improvement. Journal: What has been your most poi- gnant moment related to this initiative? Julun: The Learn 2 Live Program has touched me more than any other program in Kappa. The program aims to create a valuable relationship between law enforcement and African American

They brought excitement to the school with their stepping, appearance, and intellect. Also, the had the best college parties in the city. The first Kappa I met was Robert Porter (Kool Breeze), Fall 1973, Gamma Upsilon Chapter. He talked to me about Kappa before I trans- ferred to Texas Southern University. Journal: How do you enjoy serving in leadership in Kappa? Julun: I enjoy helping brothers get the most out of Kappa. Another goal is to help brothers achieve the same benefits from Kappa as I have received and to use Kappa as the mechanism for giving back to the community. Journal: Is there anything else you Faith: Love God and his son Jesus Christ Family: Love my wife, children, family, and friends Fitness: Continue to exercise 3-4 times a week.
