The Orlando (FL) Alumni, The Winter Park (FL) Alumni and the Lambda Omega of Kappa Alpha Psi ® Share their City and their Souls with Snapshots of their Members

T his is a salute to one of the stalwarts of the Or- born in Sanford, Florida on August 3, 1926. He was one of three children and attended school in Sanford. He gradu- ated from Crooms High School at 16 years old. He then attended Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, where he was initiated into the Pi of Kappa Alpha Psi ® in 1944. He completed require- ments for a teaching degree in 1947. He started his career in education at Oviedo High School in Oviedo, Florida, teaching Biology. Brother Blacksheare returned to Atlanta and earned a Master’s Degree in Education from Atlanta University in 1956. The Seminole County School Board appointed him Assistant Principal at Oviedo High School in 1957. He was appointed Principal of Crooms High School in Sanford in 1965. Brother Blacksheare has served in several offices in many capacities in the Orlando (FL) Alumni Chapter. He served as Lieutenant Strategus, Strat- egus and Polemarch. He has served as Keeper of Records from 1960-2012, Guide Right Program Chairman (15 years) and Chairman of the Scholarship committee from 1952-2017, where the committee donated more than $300,000 under his leadership. He served the fraternity as the 24 th Province Council Chairman, when the Council was held in Orlando from April 11-13, 1974. He served as general Conclave Chairman for the 70 th Grand Chapter Meeting in Orlando from July 28-August 3, 1991. The theme of the conclave was “Achievement Through Education Preparing for the 21 st Cen- tury.” This was befitting for Brother Blacksheare’s tireless work with the youth in the Sanford, Florida commu- nity. He also served as a member of the

Southern Province Board of Directors from 1966-1978. Brother Blacksheare’s community and civic involvement includes serving as Chairman of the Seminole County Port Authority, city of Sanford Planning and Zoning Board, Trustees for Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church, Board of Directors for SEEDCO, District Advisory Board for HRS, Board Chairman of the Seminole County NAACP, Board of Trustees at Seminole State College and as a mem- ber of the 18 th Judicial Circuit Nomi- nating Commission. Brother Blacks- heare was also the Coordinator for the Bethune-Cookman University Continu- ing Education Program for 17 years. Brother Blacksheare has received numerous honors in recognition of his decades of service within and outside of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. Most recently, in 2016, he received the United Negro College Fund Champion
