study the information that they were exposed to through the MTA process. I also think it is important that they recognize that the brother, who serves as Chapter Advisor, is expected to not only be a role model, but an individual that will serve as a father figure, dispensing authority with fraternal love and compassion. The most important advice I give to new members, is that when they complete the MTA initiation ceremony and are instructed that they are members in good stand- ing of the fraternity, and eligible to receive all the rights and privileges there to pertaining, THEY MOST OWN THEIR MEMBERSHIP!! They must fraternally demand that they be treated as any other member of the frater-

nity, without deference to any other member, no matter what their dates of initiation are. I teach that Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity must not treat “neophytes” (or newly initiated brothers) any differently than the treat me, their fraternity elder. The only deference new initiates need to give, is what all Kappas give to members who hold certain elected and appointed positions, when such deference is stated in the Constitution and Statutes, or provided by Grand Board Policy or the Ritual. I teach that if they don’t read it in Kappa’s documents of author- ity, then they need not do it. I teach them that my badge is the same as theirs, and there’s nothing about the badge that grants special treatment to newly initiated mem- bers. I proudly teach ONE KAPPA” and believe that our Founders look kindly upon my teaching.
