Letter from the Director
Dear Friends and Colleagues: I would like to share an opportunity for NJ businesses to qualify for resiliency- related grant funding. The recently formed NJ Energy Resilience Bank (ERB) is currently accepting applications. As we all know, Superstorm Sandy caused extensive damage to New Jersey’s en- ergy infrastructure and left an estimated five million residents without electricity. The ERB is funded with $200 million in seed money from the federal government, and aims to help certain critical facilities keep operating during severe storms, such as Sandy.

According to the NJ BPU, “Utilizing $200 million through New Jersey’s second Community Develop- ment Block Grant-Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) allocation, the ERB will support the development of distributed energy resources at critical facilities throughout the state that will enable them to remain operational during future outages.” These include healthcare facilities, schools, and tr sportation hubs. Mitch Carpen, Executive Director of the ERB, along with Governor James Florio, were the featured presenters at our June 15th Networking Dinner in Princeton, NJ entitled “New Jersey’s Response to Energy Resilience Post-Superstorm Sandy”. There they discussed the ERB grants. Mitch Carpen will join us again on June 30th at Waterfront Technology Center at Camden (LEED Gold Certified), NJEDA Offices, Camden, NJ. I hope you will join us for an interesting and informative night of networking and socializing with others in green building and advocacy related fields. More information can be found at www.NJERB.com. As always, feel free to contact me with any ques- tions or to discuss further at (973) 290-0013, or executivedirector@usgbcnj.org.
