SUMMER 2025
It was cold or at least a bit cooler and just like that summer is here. Move aside gloves, scarves, sweaters and jackets we don’t need you anymore till next winter. Tee shirt here I come. Some of us crave the heat while others want it to just go away. For most of us the warmer weather is a breath of fresh air but the humidity we can do without. Let the sweating begin. Others of us have the arrival of an unwelcomed friend. Yes, with the warmer weather and flowers and trees a blooming it’s allergy season and for some your immune season goes from DEFCON 5 to 1. Harmless air borne pollen and dander creates havoc. You start to secrete like a wet sponge and you’re not feeling very happy. Sudafed here I come – ah the relief. Not so relieving is your Con Ed bill. It’s not the electricity but the cost to deliver it. I’m told I’m a major electric user only surpassed by the MTA and Times Square. Told, there’s nothing I can do with the compressors and air conditioning needed to keep the office running. But, forget about all of that and let’s get out there. You could head to Central Park for some pickle ball or tennis. How about a bike ride around the reservoir? There are outdoor pools in the city so, maybe a quick dip or you could haul yourself out to Jones Beach if you are an ocean aficionado. How about an outdoor romantic evening dinner down in SOHO or the Village? You could take a walk on the Highline in the evening? You could circle New York on the Circle Line. If you’re going to the theatre at least you won’t have to hold a jacket on your lap while you see the show. Those seats are too tight to begin with. JUST LIKE THAT
You have both Yankee Stadium and Citi Field for a night game. Seems there’s a preference here to doing things at night when the temperature gets slightly cooler and the humidity decreases. You could visit the Bronx Zoo where I’m told all the animals are jumping up and down for you. Something tells me if it’s really hot the lions, tigers and bears oh my will be just chillin’. Maybe just kicking back and reading a book is good enough. Better than the movies and what’s on TV. The question is can you just sit still and read. I like reading; knocking off one book per week. It’s just you and the author. The most intimate communication between two strangers. You supply the vision based on what the author is relating. Hopefully I’ve given you some ideas but if you become really bored like the Village People who sang; it’s fun to go the YMCA we like to think it’s also fun to go the House of Teeth where you can get your teeth cleaned and feel good about yourself. Remember a clean mouth is a healthy mouth and you lead with your smile and that’s important. Wishing you a healthy and happy summer and I’ll see you soon at the practice.

If you’ve been walking around town in the 10021, 10028 and the 10075 zip codes something is rapidly changing. If you can’t see it you can hear it. It’s the sound of construction. There are approximately 30 new high rise buildings under construction from 70th to 96th streets between the East River and Fifth Avenue. Hundreds of new apartments will be coming on line soon. If you read the papers you would assume everyone is leaving New York City but with the rate of ongoing construction developers must believe these new buildings will eventually be completely occupied. The buildings look modern and have inclusive amenities but what they generally do not have is larger floor plans for the majority of the units being produced. Mayor Adams’ YES proposal allowing all new construction to not incorporate car parking into their floor plans was to allow construction costs to decrease since each parking space costs approximately sixty-seven thousand dollars to build out. These savings would allow for more units to be produced at a lower cost supposedly leading to reduced prices for renters or buyers. However, just the opposite is occurring with rental and purchasing prices rapidly increasing. The impetus in theory for all this sudden building was the completion of the 2nd Avenue Subway or the Q line. The pandemic in 2020 held up the beginning of most construction but now it’s going full force with more building sites being prepped for future construction. OUR AREA IS GROWING IS THAT A GOOD THING
OUR CORE VALUES So, it’s going to get a lot more crowded in our area in the next two to three years and hopefully that will be a good thing for small businesses like me. We always like meeting new patients and taking care of their oral health needs. For a referral is the best compliment you can give and we greatly appreciate your confidence in us. The old adage of build from the ground up is appropriate here. First go underground and build the subway, then dig some deep foundations and then the sky’s the limit. Once above ground level the construction crews can build a floor per day. The goal is to provide you more in service value than what you actually pay us for. Without you our patients the practice would not exist, for you are the reason we are able to be here. Our core values are to be positive, concerned and intuitive. Why are you here? Are you comfortable? We can help! Obviously, you came to the practice to keep your mouth healthy. Sometimes in life emergencies do happen and then you’re here to get out of pain. Going to the dentist is not on most people’s top ten list. You go because being proactive is always better than being reactive. Your brain wants to avoid pain and if you’ve had a bad or painful dental experience in life your brain says stay away. It’s a defense mechanism. The downside is by not coming in when everything is fine but only showing up when you’re in dire straits, just reinforces any prior negative experiences. That’s why a main goal is to always keep you comfortable and we try very hard to accomplish this. I, myself do not like going to the dentist and it’s a lot different being the dentist than the other way around. I keep this front of mind when treating you. Our practice vision is to instill confidence, create value and educate you about solutions. Ultimately we desire to create a bond with you. We are pleased to have you part of our practice and are always happy to meet any friends or family you may refer.
19 Years Ago before I started our Happy Dental Home I needed to determine what I wanted the practice to stand for. Over the years when new members joined our team I discussed the core values I believed in. I figured it would be nice if you knew them and are experiencing them while here.

LOOKING AND FEELING GOOD WHEN YOUR TEETH AND GUMS ARE HEALTHY
You lead with your smile. People make subconscious decisions on the way you look. May not be right but it is true especially when seeing your upper anterior teeth. Over time teeth can discolor, wear down, break or move. Dentistry today has many options to restore your teeth to a more pleasing position, color and shape. The least invasive is to just whiten your teeth using disposable trays that contain a bleaching gel. We offer trays that you wear for ten minutes per night for three to four nights and your teeth will lighten. Not toilet bowl white but whiter than they were. We find most patients are happy with the result and the cost at 125 dollars is not a stretch. If your tooth has chips or missing pieces sometimes we can restore them with a simple bonding procedure. Here composite or white filling material is applied to restore your teeth and matched to the color of your teeth. If decay or trauma has broken your tooth we can do a porcelain crown to restore it. With this procedure we can completely reshape your tooth and restore it to the color you desire.
If the tooth is healthy with no breakage and no decay but you’re just not happy with the look we can do porcelain veneers. Here a sliver of porcelain is bonded to the front surface of your tooth giving you the shape and color you desire. If your teeth are out of alignment we can move them into a more pleasing position through orthodontics. Today using clear trays we can accomplish this treatment without others knowing you are actually undergoing it. No longer do you need to show metal wires and brackets when you smile. Your smile is a reflection of your overall health. Here at the practice we have been doing these procedures for decades. In fact we have gone through all the iterations of these procedures as they have been released. Let us know if you need more information about anything mentioned here next time you visit with us.

YOU SCREAM, I SCREAM, WE ALL SCREAM FOR ICE CREAM The operative word here is moderation. Some is good, too much is going to weigh you down. Here on the Upper East Side we have some choices for the cold stuff. C’mon, treat yourself! Three choices all located on Second Avenue with Pinkberry being frozen yogurt the healthier choice.
