of Hullabaloo Press since the beginning.” This relationship came full circle at Hullabaloo 2025, where one of the most notable prints on display was the poster created by UIndy students for the 2024 Hamilton Wood Type and Printing Museum Conference, better known to printers as Wayzgoose. For the first time in the event’s history, the museum invited students— rather than a professional printmaker—to design the official poster. “In the past, a prominent designer or printmaker would create the conference poster, which is then distributed to every
attendee,” explained Fries. “This year, though, Hamilton wanted to honor and engage with students. They asked us to be the first to try it out, with the hope that other institutions might follow.” Four Hullabaloo students—Amanda Ocasio Alvarado, Hannah Parker, Baylee Bellamy, and Aidan “A.J.” Habing—rose to the challenge, collaborating to design a piece of art that would be seen by printmakers from around the world coming to the conference. With national attention and seasoned professionals in attendance, the pressure was on—but the students
delivered. Nearly 400 physical prints of their poster were distributed at the event. The team also returned with a special copy signed by many of the attending printmakers—a tangible symbol of their achievement and growing presence in the national letterpress community. For the students involved, it was much more than a portfolio piece—it was a chance to engage with the broader printmaking world. These experiences offer students real-world exposure that extends beyond the classroom, giving them the confidence, connections, and creative tools
