Ghosties and ghoulies and things that go bump in the night were riding all over Prescott and Russell Saturday for the ASD United’s annual Halloween Autism Awareness Ride. “Beautiful turnout,” said Paul Taylor Sr., ASDU president, at the conclusion of the October 25 event. “Great weather BOEHSFBUJOUFSBDUJPOGSPNGPMLT8FWF seen a lot more people dressing up and decorating their vehicles this year.” The Saturday event began early in the morning at the parking lot of the Place 19-67 Motel Restaurant in Plantagenet as 45 riders rolled out on 38 ATVs and headed down the village’s main street towards the nearest off-road access to one of the ATV cross-country trails sanctioned CZUIF&BTUFSO0OUBSJP"57$MVC &0"57$ Riders spent between two and three hours following along 75 kilometres of the ATV trail network through Prescott and Russell counties. This year’s number of participants in the ride is double the previous year’s. The annual ATV ride is one of several events that the ASDU organizes and spon- sors to both raise funds and awareness for support programs and services for

Funds raised from this year’s ATV ride will go towards the pool program that the ASDU organizes through the Town of Hawkesbury at the indoor pool facility in the Robert Hartley Sports Complex. The ASDU pool program benefits between 20 to 40 people by reserving the indoor pool for one hour each scheduled session so that individuals who are dealing with autism and their families can enjoy TPNFVOEJTUVSCFEGBNJMZSFDSFBUJPO&BDI
pool session is followed by another hour or more of recreation activity that ranges from watching a movie to enjoying a casual party or games session. Details and sign-up information on the ASDPR pool program are available at the group’s website. The next major ASDU event is the annual snowmobile ride in February. Il s’agit d’une tradition unique en son genre et d’une importante initiative de collecte de fonds menée par le Club Champlain de Rockland. Le souper annuel « Souper Moules et Frites » du club a eu lieu le samedi 18 octobre au RiverRock Inn and Conference Centre, sur Cumberland Road. Cet événement, qui existe depuis les années 1980, permet de recueillir des fonds pour les jeunes francophones de Rockland afin qu’ils puissent participer à des événements, des activités et d’autres projets importants dans toute la ville. L’événement de cette année a attiré près de 300 participants et a permis de recueillir environ 17 000 dollars de pour les programmes destinés aux jeunes francophones. (Photo fournie)

RÉFLEXIONS Le jour du Souvenir, ce n’est pas seulement une journée de cérémonies solennelles. C’est aussi un moment privilégié pour réfléchir à l’importance de la paix et à ce que nous pouvons faire collectivement pour bâtir un meilleur avenir pour les prochaines générations. Le 11 novembre, faisons une pause pour rendre hommage à ceux et celles qui ont servi notre pays avec courage et dévouement. Recherchez les activités liées au jour du Souvenir se déroulant près de chez vous en consultant votre journal local ou les réseaux sociaux de votre municipalité.
Chaque année, le 11 novembre, les Canadiens et Canadiennes prennent un instant pour souligner le jour du Souvenir. Cette date marque l’anniversaire de l’armistice de 1918, qui a mis fin à la Première Guerre mondiale. Depuis, elle est devenue un moment privilégié pour honorer toutes les personnes qui ont servi, et qui servent encore, dans les forces armées.

The City of Clarence-Rockland an- nounced the start of demolition work to the Jean-Marc Lalonde Arena. The demolition of the long-standing arena is part of the new vision for Parc Simon that was approved by Clarence-Rockland City Council at its June 11 meeting. The City has received secured fencing which will be placed around the arena, signalling the beginning of the work. Although demolition has officially begun, residents may not see major changes to the exterior immediately, as work inside the building must first be carried out. Parc Simon’s new vision The groundbreaking PArc Simon revitali- zation project will see the area become a destination for festivals, events and com- munity gatherings. The Jean-Marc Lalonde Arena shut its doors in January 2021 initially for a period of six months due to limited usage. As pandemic lockdowns closed access to public spaces, the arena only reopened a few times to allow local health units to carry out vaccination programs given the public health emergency. This figure does not allow for inflation and the increased construction costs since 2018. In September 2021, a third-party review of the city’s core services presented to council found the arena was only used at 20 per cent of its capacity from 2017 to 2019 and suggested permanent closure of the arena. The report further suggested that other facilities, such as the YMCA, the CIH Clarence-Rockland arena, and the Cla- rence-Creek arena could more than handle increased usage. Demolition work on the Jean-Marc Lalonde Arena begins. As part of the new vision for Parc Simon, Council mandates City staff to proceed with the demolition of the Jean Marc Lalonde Arena as it had surpassed its expected life cycle. C'est un événement que la communauté attend avec impatience chaque année, puisque le Club Optimiste de Bourget a organisé son carnaval annuel d'Halloween le samedi 25 octobre au Centre communautaire de Bourget. De 13 h à 16 h 30, cette tradition communautaire annuelle a proposé aux enfants présents une chasse aux bonbons, de nombreux jeux et activités, la présence des Ghostbusters de Clarence-Rockland et des prix à gagner.
