our best instructors. We can’t go wrong with this!” And Presi- dent Ramage was right: nearly 30 people enjoyed the event… and learned at the same time. The 7-hour seminar, Com- plex Litigation Appraisal Case Studies, was instructed by Val Pasquarella, Jr., SRA . “I was very excited to bring our USPAP instructor and friend Val to Atlantic City to instruct a class,” said Chapter Vice President Michael S. Sapio, MAI . “This Appraisal Institute seminar is not offered often, so it was a great opportunity to have a great seminar with a great instructor.”

Atlantic City’s Golden Nugget once again hosted the Chapter’s annual Spring event.

Based on the Appraisal Institute’s new textbook Applications in Litigation Valuation: A Pragma- tist’s Guide, this seminar discussed in detail three of the book’s case studies that provide an overview of litigation strategies to appraisers who are new to litigation work, as well as a reinforcement of litigation skills to more experienced appraisers. Case study topics included the following: title issues, continuing nuisance, and condemnation. Upon completion of the seminar, participants are be able to: Identify important issues specific to litigation valuation assignments; Evaluate competency as it relates to litigation assignments; Recognize an appropriate scope of work for complex litigation appraisal problems; Understand litigation valuation; Identify appropriate valuation techniques for litigation assignments; Develop an engagement letter for phased litigation assignments; Identify best practices for preparation of demonstrative evidence; Identify best practices for direct testimony. Throughout the cold brutal winter, the chapter offered the first classes for beginner appraisers: Basic Appraisal Principles, Basic Appraisal Procedures, and the National Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) 15-hour course. All of the classes somehow dodged all the

bad weather that was thrown at us this winter, and went off without a hitch! More classes for these students will be of- fered in the upcoming months. The next educational offer- ing for the chapter is the 19th Annual September Sympo- sium. This event will be held on Wednesday, September 10, at the Crowne Plaza, Monroe Township. More information will be coming soon. The Appraisal Institute is a global association of real estate appraisers, with more than 23,000 valuation professionals
