Annual Report of the Chair, Board of Governors And the General and Special Committees 2024
I am pleased to announce that I have selected D’Anne Spence as this year’s recipient of the Meritorious Service Award, sometimes called the Green Jacket. An Air Force Academy grad, retired Air Force Colonel with overseas service in Afghanistan, and mother of two, she has served as Club Vice President (2019-2020), Membership Chair (2020-2021) and as Club Secretary (2021 – present). Nevertheless, in addition to these duties (and many others), I want to recognize her for serving, tirelessly for years, as the Chair of the Centennial Committee. While many people have worked under her leadership, she has borne the full responsibility of getting us a great Centennial Celebration. The Centennial events culminate with a ball on November 9, 2024, but it is not too early to recognize her effort, accomplishment and leadership skills, which reflect great credit upon her, her family and the Army Navy Country Club. Finally, I would like to thank Patrick King and the entire staff for the care and attention they have given to each of us over the past year, which truly makes this Club a special place.
EXCUTIVE COMMITTEE, GOVERNANCE SUB-COMMITTEE
MR. MATTHEW BRAVO, CHAIR Fellow members, it’s been a pleasure and honor to serve as President and Chair of the Governance Committee the past year. I am more excited about where the Club is today and where we will be in the future than I have ever been during my eight years serving on the Board. It has been a productive year in the Governance Committee, and we are proud of the work we have accomplished. First, I want to thank Chairman Delaney and the entire Board of Governors for all his hard work and leadership this past year. The Club is in its strongest financial position ever and we continue to operate at a high level. I’d be remiss to not also acknowledge the critical contributions of our Finance Chair, John Tuck III and Treasurer, John Ladd, to our success on this front. Finally, I would like to thank the Club Staff, led by our General Manager, Patrick King. Without the staff’s hard work and dedication, we would not be able to achieve our goals or provide the quality-of- service members’ desire. The Governance Committee was very busy this year and reviewed multiple governance topics. We addressed our Club attire standards, reviewed the Board of Governors Committee ratios started, created a strong procurement process, and looking to implement some of last year’s successes such as expanding electronic voting and digitalizing the Annual Packet for electronic delivery. Finance Chairman John Tuck, III is leading an effort to update our procurement process so we will never experience the unfortunate act of someone stealing our deposits. Mr. Tuck is leading a group consisting of Treasurer John Ladd, Former Treasurer CAPT John Manning, Former Treasurer CAPT David Graff, and Mr. Ken Quinn. They have put together a strong procurement process consistent with other Clubs’ governance protocols. We are in the midst of finalizing this process and expect it to be done in September to help protect the Club moving forward. Working together with House Chairwoman Judge Tamara Ashford and Membership Chair David Skiles, the Governance committee worked to address and improve our attire standards. This effort took four months and received input from every activity chair, members of the Executive Committee, and all the AGM’s from both the Arlington and Fairfax campuses. The changes we
