Annual Report of the Chair, Board of Governors And the General and Special Committees 2024
Since my last Annual Meeting report in October 2023, your Membership Committee has spent the past year enacting policies that continue to advance the mission of Army Navy Country Club. Through collaboration with the Club’s other standing committees, the Membership Committee’s actions have focused on supporting the Club’s Strategic Plan which was overwhelmingly endorsed by the membership at last year’s Annual Meeting. As we all know, the most important component of a healthy organization is a robust membership. To that end, the Army Navy Country Club continues to meet that objective. As a result of our membership staff, and the recruitment efforts of many members, the Club reached the ‘SuperCap’ of 2,400 Resident Members. While this achievement is certainly praiseworthy, it does create challenges mainly with overall capacity and the slowdown in onboarding new members which will invariably have an impact the Club’s capital account. To that end, the Board of Governors is focused on reviewing policies to help address this issue. One such policy changes already enacted was modifying the Club’s waitlist policy. Under the able leadership of the Club Secretary, the Board of Governors unanimously approved a recommendation by the SuperCap Ad Hoc Committee to modify our By-Laws and establish a ‘First-On/First-In’ waitlist. Beyond these efforts, the Membership Committee has also focused and approved various policies changes such as ensuring that junior members who apply under the Sons & Daughters category are able to retain access even while on the waitlist. In addition, the Committee has begun the much-needed process of reviewing and recommending the consolidation of membership categories. Army Navy Country Club has thirteen separate membership categories. This creates a complex membership structure to manage and maintain. In the coming months, the Membership Committee will formalize a set of recommendations for consideration by the Board of Governors. On this, the Committee welcomes your thoughts and input. As always, I would be remiss if I did not mention the hard work by many who assisted in these efforts over the past year. Starting with the members of the Membership Committee, including Tamara Ashford, Rich Hagner, Joe Kornhoff, Jennifer Lednicky, Ken Quinn, D’Anne Spence, Hampton Tignor. Each committee member has devoted countless hours to make our membership strong and vibrant. Our work, however, would not be possible without the support and guidance of excellent staff. To that end, we all owe a thank you to Patrick King, Diana Wang, and Kalyn Shoop. In closing, I would like to thank all the Members who recruited and sponsored new Members to the Club. Encourage your colleagues and neighbors to get more information from Director of Membership Diana Wang at diana.wang@ancc.org.
