AQUATICS COMMITTEE
CDR MICHAEL J. PAUL, USN, RET., CHAIR Dear Members, it’s official! Our Centennial year is truly an historic Championship Year for ANCC in our new aquatics facility’s second full season of operation. For the first time since 2019, and in honor of our 100th Anniversary, our Club hosted the Country Club Swimming and Diving Association (CCSDA) Championships at our Arlington location. The CCSDA is comprised of 16 country clubs throughout the Washington, DC metropolitan area, including teams in Maryland and Northern Virginia. All 16 teams culminated their swim season by competing in the CCSDA Championship swim and dive meets, allowing our Arlington aquatics facility and the entire ANCC staff to shine as the region’s top facility of its kind. For the first time in 44 years, our ANCC Swim team earned their title as the 2024 CCSDA Champions after an incredible Championship victory on 29-30 July. We are also incredibly proud of our ANCC Dive team who took the bronze, placing third this year in the CCSDA Dive Championships. Congratulations to our Coaches Ian Handerhan, Katie Yost, and Anita O’Quinn for their incredible historic year for our Swim and Dive teams. I’d also like to thank all of our member volunteers and Aquatics Committee members Carey Busen and Andrea Amberg for their tireless efforts to ensure a successful Swim and Dive season. Aquatics facility utilization was at an all-time high, with our members enjoying the resort-like amenities at Arlington, as well as the new pool deck upgrades and increased deck space at Fairfax. By June 2024, our Arlington pools had already experienced an incredible 66% increase in member and guest utilization over the prior year. In accordance with strategic planning initiatives and Club goals, the Aquatics Committee set a goal to increase Fairfax aquatics utilization by 15% (Year over Year 2023-2024). To meet this goal, the committee and staff refined the allowable guest policy at our Fairfax aquatics facility and increased Fairfax pool offerings and unique activities. As a result, the Club exceeded the Aquatics Committee’s goals with an incredible 40% increase in utilization at our Fairfax pools. On behalf of the entire membership, I’d like to extend a sincere thank you to our Aquatics General Manager Wendy Wilson, and her entire staff of true professionals. None of these Centennial- defining accomplishments would be possible without the tireless efforts of our pool managers, lifeguards, security team, cleaning crew, and food and beverage staff. I’d also like to extend a sincere thanks to CAPT Tom Ogden, USN, Lt Col Doug MacIvor, USAFR, Mrs. Leslie Abbott, Mrs. Maria Butler, Mr. John Fitzgerald, Mrs. Susan Miller, LtCol Pete McAleer,
