Un homme de Bourget s’est arrêté dans un dépanneur pour acheter du lait, une course qui lui a finalement rapporté 75 000 dollars. Nicholas Campeau, 23 ans, de Bourget a gagné une telle somme grâce à son billet de loterie Instant Lucky Lines. «J’achète des billets de temps en temps, a déclaré M. Campeau, lors de sa visite au centre de prix OLG à Toronto pour récupérer ses gains. J’ai acheté ce billet alors que j’étais au magasin pour prendre du lait.» M. Campeau travaille comme opérateur d’équipement lourd. Il a acheté son billet gagnant au Dépanneur Léger à Plantage- net. Il a été surpris lorsqu’il a appris plus tard qu’il avait gagné. «J’ai dû vérifier trois fois, a-t-il déclaré en riant, à propos des résultats de son

billet. Je pensais que c’était une arnaque.» Depuis qu’il a découvert que son billet valait 75 000 dollars, M. Campeau a pensé à tout ce qu’il pouvait faire. Je veux profiter au maximum de cet argent, a-t-il déclaré,
en souriant. Je vais donc résister à l’envie d’acheter une voiture sport. Je vais plutôt l’investir, afin de pouvoir un jour lancer ma propre entreprise.»

Les inquiétudes concernant le nombre croissant de cas COVID-19 dans la région ont annulé les plans d’une cérémonie spéciale le 30 octobre au cénotaphe de Rockland pour commémorer l’ajout de cinq noms à la liste des morts honorés sur le cénotaphe. La Cité de Clarence-Rockland organisera l’enregistrement d’une cérémonie abrégée à la place pour une diffusion ultérieure sur les médias sociaux. —archives

Concerns over the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in Prescott-Russell have prompted a change of plan for an updating of the Rockland Cenotaph. Plans for a special by-invitation-only cere- mony October 30 have been cancelled. The ceremony was intended to mark the start of the Rockland Legion’s Poppy Campaign leading up to Remembrance Day, November 11, and also commemorate the addition of five Clarence-Rockland men who died in service during World War I but whose names were “lost” in history until this year. The City of Clarence-Rockland and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 554 were going to hold a joint ceremony October 30 at the cenotaph, with attendance limited to a select group of municipal officials, Legion members, and others. The ceremony would be made available for viewing by residents later through social media. But the city announced that the live ceremony will not take place because of concern over the increasing number of cases of COVID-19 in the region and the new pro- vincial pandemic control restrictions. Instead the city will tape “an abbreviated version” of the planned ceremony honouring the five additions to the cenotaph memorial list of names and make that video available later through social media. The five men whose names will become part of the Cenotaph list of the honoured dead are Private Douglas Archibald Beaton, Corporal John Robert Duncan, Lance-Sargent Hervé Joseph Chenier, Private James Wilfred Campbell, and Private Victor Clément.
