FROM THE DIRECTOR:
Dear Shelbyville Residents,
I hope this message finds you well. As we enjoy the beauty of the changing of the seasons and summer comes to a close, I would like to say thank you. Thank you to the 24,000 people who visited our Meridian Park Pool this summer. Thank you to all of the parents who allowed us to come alongside your children and be part of their summer memories in our day camp programs. Thank you for relaxing and enjoying the parks, playgrounds and shelters, playing on the new pickleball courts, attending our Music in the Park summer series, walking and riding our trail system, splashing around at the Blue River Splash Pad, enjoying a free bike with our new bike share program, playing catch with your dog at the dog park, shooting some hoops at our newly renovated basketball courts at Morrison Park, as well as those who have enjoyed playing a game of softball on our diamonds or playing disc golf at Sunset Park. As I reflect on my almost 30 years of service with the City of Shelbyville, with the last 2 years as Parks Director, I am filled with a deep sense of gratitude and pride. It has been an incredible journey, one that has allowed me to witness and contribute to the growth and development of this wonderful community we call home. When I first began my career, I could not have imagined the countless friendships, partnerships and memories that would be formed along the way. Each project, each initiative, and every interaction with members of our community has been a learning experience that has enriched my life in ways I could never have anticipated. The past 2 years as your Parks Director has truly been a blessing. Serving this community and seeing the positive impact our parks have on the lives of residents is something I cherish deeply. . As our Parks team moves forward, we are committed to continuing this journey with the same passion and determination. Our parks are not just about green spaces; they are about building connections, promoting wellness, and enhancing the quality of life for all. I have been privileged to work alongside a dedicated team of professionals and community members who share a common goal: to make Shelbyville an even better place to live, invest, work, and play. Thank you for your ongoing support, and I look forward to what we can achieve together in the coming years. I do truly believe PARKS MAKE LIFE BETTER and I am proud of what we are doing in our community.
Thank you so much!

It outlines our goals and strategies to improve parks, facilities, and programs, ensuring they meet the evolving needs of Shelby County Residents. So here’s what we are working on: What is a 5-year Master Plan?

Your voices have directly shaped this plan. Establishing our Vision and Goals: Our vision is to create vibrant, inclusive and sustainable recreation spaces that enhance the quality of life for all residents. The plan sets specific goals, such as increasing park accessibility, expanding programming for all ages, and preserving natural spaces.

Improved parks increase property value, promote healthy lifestyles, and create opportunities for social interaction and community building. How you can get Involved: We encourage you to stay involved! Attend public meetings, provide feedback, and participate in community events. Together we can ensure that our parks continue to be a source of pride and joy for everyone.
