College – Issue 35

“There’s no doubt they are very patriotic,” says Ollie. Sebastian said a highlight of his stay was joining the track team. The long-distance runner went to several meets, but most enjoyed running with the team as it trained throughout the streets of the city and through his neighbourhood. For Finn, attending an ice hockey game was a highlight, and the general experience of finding everyone so keen to meet the young New Zealanders and hear them speak. Ollie says, hanging out with host brother Otto and his friends was good fun, and the kindness, generosity and interest everyone showed was humbling. All three are keen to return to Nashville in the future and hope to welcome their families to Christchurch. “I was nervous before I went, but I’m so glad I did,” says Ollie. “We want to thank College for this fantastic opportunity.” “All of us applied to go to Montgomery Bell as a way of taking a look at the USA with the thought that wemight want to go and study there at university level.” Sebastian Fergusson
