“Just hearing the national anthem play before each game was inspiring.” Louis Clark

“Just hearing the national anthem play before each game was inspiring,” says Louis. “It made me realise I really was there for New Zealand, playing for my country, and with teammates I’d become quite close to as we’d trained so hard and had so much time together.” Louis is very grateful for his family’s and College’s support and encouragement. He admits his schoolwork has taken a hit and he has some catching up to do. Nevertheless, he continues to train for hours each week – at present focusing on swimming and his place in the New Zealand Swimming

High Performance National Squad, but always mindful of his other commitments. “I fit things in when I can. It’s pretty much school or sport at the moment, and that’s it.” He is looking forward to summer and the hours he will spend as a volunteer surf lifesaver at Taylor’s Mistake. “It’s a compulsory part of surf lifesaving, you have to do a certain number of hours in order to be eligible to compete. Last year my family rented a bach at the beach, so I could stay out there, do all my surf and swim training there, and just be near the water. I love it, it’s great.”
