DEVELOPMENT OFFICE Sponsorship

Other sponsored sports are hockey and football. Darrell Thatcher is not only the College’s Director of Boarding and the Centre for Character & Leadership, but also runs the hockey programme and has done a great job engaging sponsors to support it. Harper Housemaster Matt Cortesi leads football. This year the boys went to North America on the biennial football tour. Matt and his boys have done an outstanding job finding sponsors for both the club and the tour. We look forward to hearing about some of the tour highlights.

Rugby had an outstanding season. College came 1st equal in the UC competition, with a tie against Christchurch Boys' High School in the final. There are many reasons for the success of College rugby. The outstanding coaching, team management and support from our parent committees. However, undoubtedly, sponsorship plays a major part in that success. We have 44 sponsors and many of them are longstanding and have committed to several years As we move into spring, winter sports wind down and summer sports start up.

The official season was launched on Tuesday 11 September in the OBT. Anyone who has been involved with rowing knows what a marathon commitment it is. The long drives to Twizel and back, the regattas, the food! Again, we could not do it without the huge back-story that goes behind the boys winning Maadi twice in the last four years. Without our sponsors, this level of excellence could not be achieved.
