The entire project was a team effort, requiring constant com- munication between the staff and planners at St. Luke’s, all the project designers, and GE’s Healthcare team. Judges considered specific LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) elements such as the use of a geothermal system and ‘energy caissons’, the installa- tion of an electric car charging station, and that the project was constructed in a very tight urban foot print. The five story, 52,000 s/f office building was constructed at the highly vis- ible corner of Second and State Streets in downtown Harris- burg a block from the Capitol Building. ■

The hybrid operating room was developed by GE Healthcare and is the first of its kind in the United States. The high tech procedures that will take place in the operating room through sophisticated operat- ing equipment required all details of the construction to be perfect. The $1.4 million dollar construction renovation was started in the beginning of July and completed by the end of October, 2012. Throughout EAST PETERSBURG, PA — Warfel Construction Com- pany received three awards from the Eastern PA Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors at its 22nd Annual Awards of Excellence event. Warfel earned the honor of General Contractor of the Year in its category. The com- pany was judged based on its commitment to safety, quality and training. Subcontractor and client references were consid- ered as part of the evaluation process.
