Raphael Mazzucco | Never Ending Summer

As Founder and Creative Director of Washington Green Fine Art Group Ltd, I have been fortunate in the last 35 years to collaborate with some of the most talented painters and sculptors in the industry - diverse though they may be in subject matter; they share the unique position of being the finest in their field. Our approach is very collaborative; we work alongside our artists and use our experience to develop the artwork that they produce and introduce the work to an engaged audience. Our aim is to create an opportunity where these unrivalled collections are available to anyone and everyone who appreciates art. Our estate of UK galleries offers a great environment to view and enjoy our artists’ diverse portfolio of work, thanks to our dynamic program of exhibitions and artist events. Discovering artists and their work is a constant and undiminishing pleasure for me. I can’t tell you what I’m looking for until I see it. For me, artwork should shout, should shake up its genre; it should have content, a challenge, a message, all of which forces us to look deeper and pause that one minute longer in front of it. Whatever message it conveys, be it social commentary, a political statement or even the minutiae of human existence, it should lend an altogether different dimension to the work. I look at pioneering artists such as Caravaggio, Picasso and Warhol (to name but a few) and I see how intuitively they understood this; they were leaders, and they paved the way for many of the greatest artists that have since followed in their footsteps. We choose to work with artists who have the passion to love what they do and the confidence to create quality artworks. I was first introduced to Raphael Mazzucco by a US-based industry contact and, following a meeting at his studio in New York where we spoke at length about his work, his processes and inspirations, our working relationship was born. His first collection for us, Montauk, opened at our Mayfair gallery in June 2014 to great acclaim and his profile in the UK continues to grow tremendously to this day. Mazzucco’s work is cutting edge, eminently credible and hugely prestigious - I hadn’t seen anything like it before, and it excites me just as much today as it did when I first saw it. Having reached the pinnacle of his career in photography, his redirection into fine art has been brilliantly conceived and executed.
